Then again, I have my other blog (no posts since November, but I just haven't felt motivated to be intellectual) and my myspace blog, with 220 total posts.
Anyway. Time to dive back in with MORE PHOTOS and the details of San Juan Del Sur.
B and I had a heady time of trying to determine if we really wanted to go to SJDS or say "Screw it" and hop a flight to the Corn Islands on the Carribean side (sorry Mom; I know you hate that idea). So we went to Rivas from Ometepe to use an internet cafe. While we were getting money, a guy slips up next to me and asks if I want a taxi (in spanish). Not really looking, I give him the brush off. Turns out he's a Wisconsin student with excellent Spanish skills, and we get a taxi for $4 each (an hour ride). This is good as the roads from Rivas to SJDS are horrendous.
We get there and the taxi driver drops the other two guys off at the notorious backpacker hotel in SJDS, but since B and I already vowed to stay at locally owned places, the taxi driver takes us (for free) to Hotel Nina--the best place we stay the entire time. Our hostess was so full of spunk, a little single lady (or perhaps with a part time husband) and she and her daughters kept that place spotless. $10 per night and ideally located, and very safe.
The first day we didn't do much...ate, as we were starving as usual, and poked about the beach. As you can see in the photo, SJDS is gorgeous, a beautiful crescent. We walked for awhile, B pushed me over in the water and I sputtered and made him feel guilty, and then we sat and watched the waves for quite some time. Then it was ice cream time (as always) and off to dinner at an Italian place. We weren't too impressed with the pizza but we were very excited about the chess board we found.
The next day we decided to eat at a DELICIOUS bakery run by a youth center. Absolutely the best cinnamon rolls we'd ever tasted. We did that and then had fruit juice at the market...and then the power went out. No big deal. We played in the waves and then headed up a cliff walk, which our friend from Portland, who looked eerily like Andrew McMahon, had recommended to us the day before. Here's the start of the walk:
We spent the rest of the day determining what we would do with our evening/next day...details about that in the next blog.
