So This Is The New Year

My aunties are having fun with silly quizzes to help define their new years...but I guess I'm not in quite that place right now.

Don't worry, family, I will definitely post some photos and go through a rundown of my time at home. Feel free to pass on your photos in the meantime though!

It's a new year, a fresh start, and I desperately need one right now. I had a year filled with ups and downs and made many decisions that I wish I could take back. But I have no time turner and so here I am, facing 2008 and reminding myself, each and every day, that I must forgive myself.

But here I go, into a new year. I finished the old one with the person who has been there for me the most, the longest, the most consistently. I'm ready to start a year in which I live in a city I love, in which I don't move, in which I keep strengthening the friendships I've made and becoming more involved in community.

I don't really have resolutions. I'm not sure I've ever quite kept them. But I have a wide vision of what I'd like this year to look like.

I'm ready to cook more, and once again am going to compile a list of the recipes I'd most like to try. I'm hoping that Emily and I will cook more together and we'll cook a few things she wants to learn. I want to volunteer at the farmer's market and help with a garden growing down the road. We're going to start a compost pile. I want to be more organized so I don't forget about an exam, a proposal deadline or a bill payment. I'm ready to experience the city more, even if it means losing a bit more sleep. I plan to sit down each day with the bible outline dad created me. I need to be more active, walking, biking, dancing.

And of course, travel. Travel, travel, travel...the urge never ends, it is only made more difficult by the lack of vacation days.

I hope to post here more often, less updates, more commentary. It's set to be a bit of an intense year. Who knows where the country will go? I'm figuring out the directions I'd like it to take and writing about that usually makes it clearer in my head.

But for tonight, this second night of 2008, I'd like to just go home and snuggle under the covers!
