And The Postcard's Gonna Read...

Wow, it is difficult to keep this thing updated when I no longer have home internet. But I move on the 22nd and then--free wireless! Yippee!
Finally, the photos from when my parents were here. That was well over a month ago. Sorry Mom and Dad! I love you, I promise, I just hadn't had the opportunity to throw up these photos.
The parents arrived on June 1st. I rented a car, as my little two-seater obviously would not hold all of us. I drove the horribly-new smelling automatic down to Jackson to fetch them. When they came out of the gate, they already looked astonished at the size of the airport. This is an airport that is still able to annouce flight arrivals, as there is only one arriving flight at a time. Being at the airport was surreal--I actually hadn't been back to Jackson since the first time I flew out to Mississippi. This time I was on the other side, waiting for them to walk out.
They arrived, they were safe and of course Mom had to hug me five or six times before we could go to baggage claim. We had some BBQ in Jackson (Dad couldn't come to the south w/o having BBQ) and then drove the long 2 hours back to Starkville. Wow, it's empty, was their basic reaction. The next day we...hmmm...I think we were lazy. We had Bulldog Deli for lunch, which is a delicious deli in Starkville that's actually started its own chain. It's yummy and now I want BD. That night, we went out to West Point and Anthony's, which is my favorite restaurant in the area. It's where B and I went for Valentine's Day. My parents enjoyed it, I believe, from the bacon-wrapped prawns to the key lime pie.
On Saturday we went to Tupelo, where of course Mom and I went shopping and Dad tried to occupy himself at Books-a-Million. Then we stopped off at Elvis' house. What else? Sunday was very chill. We saw Just My Luck and watched a lot of Gilmore Girls, as well as ate some Sonic. I'm sure Dad is happy to hear that Sonics are appearing in the NW. Of course this happens after I leave!
On Monday, we decided to drive the scenic route back to Jackson. We took the Natchez Trace, a national parkway complete with plenty of historical markers for Mom. But first, she had to take a photo of me in front of my building (she wanted one in my office but I informed her that I had no desire to do that on a vacation day). We drove the trace and found French Camp, a historic boarding school that still operates. This was more or less the highlight of Mom's trip, if not one of the top tens in her historical life. Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting All in all, it was a nice drive and I didn't get too bored with the signs. My favorite part was the swamp. Oh, another one of the highlights for Mom was the fact that we all had lunch for $12 at Traceway Restaurant, which was decent, authentic small-town Southern fare.
As for me, the highlight was the hour-long Target trip. No, I'm kidding. Of course I love Target, but I loved seeing my parents even more. I'm glad they came and realize now that I live in civiliation and it's not hideously ugly or flat and brown.
