and I'll live the life, the big city feeling

Why hello.
Have you missed me yet?
I've missed you...I need an outlet, an open space, a blank page. So to this space I return, to type my stream-of-consciousness that, if left unattended, would rattle my brain until causing an explosion.

So I'm here. New Orleans. I'm here and it feels like home and already there's too much to do and not enough hours in the day.
My day.
It begins at 6:20AM when I struggle down the stairs to make coffee. Although in Mississippi I was typically in bed by nine, here I've yet to close my eyes before 10:30, and usually later. K1 would be proud.
Yesterday I learned that the straightening iron is only to be used after looking out the window. I spent way too long on my hair, only to step outside into a fog. A warm fog, which was quite strange. My hair immediately rebelled.
I catch the bus about five blocks from my place, and walk about five blocks to work (I actually walk more on the way back to the bus, as I need to leave the building from a different door and catch the bus on a street one block up).
I like this job more than I expected. I thought it would simply be glancing at contracts and making sure the correct boxes were ticked, but it is more...bugets and fitting together pieces of puzzles and meeting with PhDs. I hope I keep up this enthusiasm.

Yes, it's been great so far, but my world is taking a turn today when Barry leaves for Houston for five weeks. It's strange, having just arrived and him fleeing the city, but I think (hope) that it will be a positive...I think it will help me find my own footing and not rely on him quite so much. At this moment, it feels that I'll have so much to do that the weeks will fly by.
I will:
Unpack, sort, and negotiate space for all our crap (I mean, precious items of infinite value)
Go to Invisible Children tonight with new friends
Have a Target run
Train the cats to not scratch and not sit on the table
Buy groceries
Return to S-ville to clean old apartment and retreive CD
Check out the French Quarter Festival
Go to the Human Rights movie festival
Go to Jazz Fest (last weekend in April)
Go to New Jersey (first weekend in May)
Bond with my new roommate (although not until 11:20 at night like last night)
Fix the ceiling fan so I can sleep with it on
Finish my stupid grad application...ooops...
Learn to navigate the city
Find volunteer opps
Go to church and community group
Be social rather than do the easy thing and stay in my room with a book
Find good restaurants, cafes, etc

Wow. That's a lot for one tiny person. Good thing this city's got coffee!

Key Niece. Nice one. I can actually read blog here in Cambodia. I'm trying to stay cool after a long day out in the rural parts of Phnom Penh. What a day, what an eye opening experience. WOW! I'm glad that you are trying to settle in a bit, and that you have an excitement about this new job. I met a wonderful woman who works for USAID, and she is going to Tulaine to attend classes for a few months. I am going to get you her info in an email soon. I thought that it might be nice for her to have at least one more contact. I'll share about her on the blog later this evening, or for you sometime after you get to work! Luv u, and proud of you AA
