The Great Cookie Giveaway of 2009

Bonjour, mon petit fleurs.

I am eating a cookie. Gasp. I know, I know. At least it doesn't have HFCS in it--I checked. But it is still ridiculously sweet, overwhelmingly sweet, capable of sending the heart a-racing sweet. Yet I ate it. Why? Because I just can't kick this sweet-tooth habit. And because a sausage and a small scoop of couscous is apparently not satisfying.

So, my little dulces, I need your help. After posting a facebook status earlier today about the cookies I need to make and send off to various corners of the globe, and contemplating what those types of cookies might be, I received quite a few replies from people wondering if, perchance, these cookies might be coming to them.

And the light bulb went off and I thought, como no? Why can't I send out packages of treats to all those that ask? Who doesn't love getting a box of cookies in the mail? Plus, it will help me quell my urge to bake while forbidding me to eat all the cookies that I create. Everyone wins!

Alas, alak, these cookies won't be for free. No. I need your help. Because I have the unbeatable sweet tooth, and because I've pledged to swap honey, agave, and/or molasses for cane sugar as much as possible, I need to get in the kitchen and start testing recipes. I need to re-watch the Alton Brown episode of Good Eats, in which he tells us how to bake with honey. I need to troll blogs and books for inspiration.

And I need you to give me feedback. So here's what we're going to do. You leave me a comment stating that you want cookies. In return, you will get two or three types of cookies (either delivered or mailed, depending on where you live). Your job is to let me know which of the cookies you like, and why. I'll then post the winning recipes on this blog.

I can see a few lips turning up in disgust. Don't panic. These are not going to be health cookies, full of lumps and gritty flour and carob chips. They'll have chocolate! Peanut butter! Citrus! Pecans! They just won't be full of bleached flour and white sugar.

Think it's worth the risk? Drop your name in. If I don't have your address, I'll contact you (don't be silly and leave it in the comments section). Within the next two weeks, cookies will show up at your door. What could be more fun?

I'm sure between my son and Laura we'll be able to provide plenty of varied feedback for you, if you're so inclined. And thank you in advance if I get to be so lucky as to help

Cookies sound like a thing I could get behind. Also, I shall take this opportunity to remind you that IPA FEST is this weekend. On Saturday no less. I'm actually moving for the first part of the day. And then a trip to a BBQ is likely, but if you are inclined towards hops at a reasonable hour (say 8 or 9pm?), you should mosey in this direction. I think I owe you a birthday beer. And you owe me one. Lindsey gets the shaft on this one.

sounds delicious...and you've got lots of takers!...what a special treat that would be. Maybe you could just do one NOLA package and we can all meet up and have a cookie tasting...sorta like the chocolate tasting. Hope all is well!
